ABOUT REESE’S LAW

RAYOVAC is ready for Reese’s Law, with all hearing aid batteries being produced in new child resistant packaging from March 8, 2024.

Reese’s Law – signed by President Biden on August 16, 2022, states that all button, coin and hearing aid batteries – and devices powered by those batteries – must comply with these standards:

  • Batteries (all button, coin cell, lithium coin cell, silver oxide and hearing aid batteries) must be packaged in Child-Resistant Packaging (CRP)
  • Batteries and devices must have specific warning copy on their packaging.

Supporting our U.S. customers, partners and their customers through the changes legislated by President Biden, the new packs are 100% child resistant¹ but senior-considerate¹, and with no changes to the same high quality hearing aid batteries – no hearing aid battery lasts longer*.

Remember: The switchover for child resistant pack production happens on March 8 2024, but it doesn’t mean that previous packaging won’t still be in the market. It will probably take some months for the old stock to become completely exhausted.

* Based on standard ANSI/IEC average.

NEW child resistant packaging solution

Introducing RAYOVAC’s new child resistant but senior-considerate packaging for US hearing aid batteries.

Committed to child safety

RAYOVAC is committed to child safety, and we’ve done a lot over the years in support of that. The products, which will be produced from March 8, 2024, have been subject to rigorous independent tests, confirming that the new packaging is 100% child resistant and is child safe as zero batteries were accessed by children during CRP testing.*

Senior-considerate packaging design

In designing the new packaging, we’ve been careful to ensure that existing hearing aid users can access our batteries quickly and easily by using a pair of scissors. There is an on-pack message to highlight that it is child resistant and brief opening instructions are also featured on the pack.

  • Independent product testing confirmed that:
  • 99% of seniors are able to open the pack for the first time in less than a minute
  • On second attempt this time halved
  • Consumers become faster with more familiarity
  • With instruction, our battery packs can be opened in seconds by seniors.*

Consumer help and advice

To help consumers access batteries in the new child resistant packaging, we’ve put together some helpful tips and advice.

  • Plan and schedule convenient days and times when you will access your hearing aid batteries – maybe you can enlist support from a family member or friend if needed.
  • When handling your hearing aid battery, you should always do so with clean, dry hands. This prevents potential corrosion of the battery, which could affect performance.
  • Make sure you are sitting down with your battery pack and a pair of scissors, ideally over a table.
  • Carefully use the scissors to cut and open the pack and access the hearing aid batteries one by one. Think of this as like cutting a slice of a pie.
  • Be sure to store any loose batteries safely and out of reach of children.
