ABOUT REESE’S LAW

Reese’s Law – signed by President Biden on August 16, 2022, stated that all button, coin and hearing aid batteries – and devices powered by those batteries – must comply with these standards:

  • Batteries (all button, coin cell, lithium coin cell, silver oxide and hearing aid batteries) must be packaged in Child-Resistant Packaging (CRP)
  • Batteries and devices must have specific warning copy on their packaging.

Since introducing our first child resistant packaging in March 2024 to comply with child battery safety rules set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, we’ve listened and acted on consumer feedback… We are proud to announce our improved packaging design for the US market. From late Spring 2026, RAYOVAC® hearing aid batteries will be available in new and improved packaging, making batteries more accessible for seniors while remaining child resistant and compliant with Reese’s Law*.

Child Resistant Packaging Solution

Designed with the consumer accessibility in mind, the packaging features:

  • an opening method requiring only 2 minor cuts at highlighted scissor slots ;
  • clearer on-pack instructions, supported by visual icons, guiding users through a simple, intuitive two-step opening process ;
  • an on pack QR code users can scan to watch a video demonstration.

COMMITTED TO CHILD SAFETY

We know what’s important in life and that people come first. We are committed to child safety, and we’ve done a lot over the years in support of that. We successfully achieved compliance with our first hearing aid battery child-resistant packaging in March 2024. And now, our latest packaging design, produced from late Spring 2026, has been fully certified as child-resistant in independent testing* – zero children were able to access any batteries within the initial five‑minute test window.*

Senior-considerate Packaging Design

Thoughtfully designed to enhance ease of use, while maintaining the highest safety standards, independent product testing confirmed that with these improvements, RAYOVAC® packaging is senior considerate*…

  • 98% of consumers are able to open the pack in less than one minute as they become familiar with the new design*
  • With instructions and familiarity, our battery packs can be opened on average in 20 seconds or less by seniors*
  • The new pack design reduces opening times by at least 25% on average on the second attempt**

Consumer help and advice

To help consumers access batteries in our child resistant packaging, we’ve put together some helpful tips and advice.

  • Plan and schedule convenient days and times when you will access your hearing aid batteries – maybe you can enlist support from a family member or friend if needed.
  • When handling your hearing aid battery, you should always do so with clean, dry hands. This prevents potential corrosion of the battery, which could affect performance.
  • Make sure you are sitting down with your battery pack and a pair of scissors, ideally over a table.
  • Carefully use the scissors to cut 1/4 inch at the bottom edge of the pack. Once both cuts are made, bend the top dial up to release the battery. Then close the flap, rotate the dial, and repeat the steps as needed.
  • Be sure to store any loose batteries safely and out of reach of children.
