Protect your hearing with Rayovac

Have you ever heard a ringing in your ears after a loud noise? Noise is a leading cause of hearing damage. It can be caused through a single loud blast or by extended exposure to everyday sounds, at school, work, when you are out having fun, as well as through headphone use.

Recognising the signs of hearing loss is an important part of protecting your hearing; spotting the early signs of damage before it becomes permanent. By paying attention to your environment and the associated noise levels there are some simple steps that you can take, to protect your hearing for years to come.

Preventing childhood hearing loss with lessons for life

According to World Health Organization figures, more than half of all childhood hearing loss is preventable and more than a billion young people aged between 12 and 35 are at risk of noise-related hearing loss.
That’s more than the entire population of Europe!

We invited a group of children to visit a Rayovac hearing aid battery manufacturing facility to learn some important lessons relating to hearing damage, hearing loss prevention and better communication, such as:

  • How your ears work
  • How loud noises can cause damage to the fragile hair cells in the ear
  • Some basic sign-language (BSL)
  • How to communicate effectively with people with hearing loss, including tips such as making sure they can see your lips when you are speaking

Simple steps you can take to protect your hearing

Avoiding loud noise altogether is not practical for most of us. It may be that you have to work in a noisy environment, or you may love listening to music or going to concerts. With the ever-increasing use of devices such as smartphones and tablets it’s becoming much more common for us to spend large amounts of time using headphones.

There are small changes we can make that can have a big impact on our hearing health over the course of a lifetime. Early identification of a hearing problem can also help you take action to reduce further deterioration.

We’ve put together some practical hearing care tips which may help you avoid preventable hearing damage and understand the common causes and signs of hearing loss:

Supporting the Global Foundation For Children With Hearing Loss

Announced on World Hearing Day 2019, Rayovac staff will be raising money for the Global Foundation For Children With Hearing Loss through a range of activities in 2019.

Our donations will go towards supporting the charity’s work to ensure that thousands of children who are deaf or have hearing loss in disadvantaged areas can reach their full potential. The charity provides access to early identification, hearing technology and expertise that the children would not have access to otherwise.

Rayovac’s donations will also support the foundation’s volunteering opportunities for hearing professionals who would like to offer their time and expertise in low and middle income countries.
